About DOT404
A tiny team building an AI that feels present, calm and helpful — always here, never in the way.
DOT404 started from a simple frustration: the helpful stuff lives in tabs you have to visit, in windows you have to manage, in prompts you have to describe your screen to. We wanted the opposite — something that is already there, small enough to ignore, alive enough to feel like company, and honest enough to show exactly what it can and cannot do.
So DOT404 is a small character on your desktop with real screen context: it answers, points, and teaches in place, then gets out of the way. The model behind it can be swapped; the presence and the restraint are the product.
How we work
Four rules we ship by
-
Local-first
Conversations live on your device; sensing is opt-in and visible; retention is the exception, not the default.
-
No dark patterns
No telemetry you didn’t ask for, no features designed to keep you staring, no guilt-trip notifications.
-
Honest roadmaps
Unbuilt things are labeled planned, unknowns are labeled unknown, and dates appear only when confirmed.
Read the roadmap -
Calm by default
Slow motion, low amplitude, huge whitespace — the interface should feel like the product promise.
Where we are
Pre-release. The Windows app runs today — chat, Amethyst, voice, screen questions and guidance all work — and the first public build (v0.1.0) is on the download page. The team is small enough that every report gets read.
Draft item: team names, bios and a press kit can be added here once approved — this page intentionally names no individuals.
