What a request can contain
Your message, plus up to the most recent 40 messages of loaded context. One screenshot — only for screen questions you explicitly sent, or images you attached yourself. Extracted attachment text (files are parsed on your device, up to 6,000 characters per file). For pointer-style questions, a second non-streamed call may receive the same screenshot to localize boxes — coordinates only, never prose.

What no model ever receives
Your screen when you did not press Send. Your full unbounded history. Files you did not attach. Keystrokes, other apps’ internals, passwords, or anything a screenshot does not show. Secrets — provider keys exist only in server-side function environment variables.
Where it can be wrong
- Answers. Language models make things up. DOT404 answers are informational, not professional advice — verify anything consequential.
- Grounding. Target localization is uncalibrated: small, dense, or unusual UI can be missed or boxed imprecisely. When it fails, you get the text answer and no visual — silently, by design.
- Screenshots. Amethyst floats above your desktop, so it can appear in its own capture. Fullscreen DRM-protected or excluded content may be blacked out by the OS.
- Preview mode. Signed out, replies come from a local mock that only echoes your topic. It says so in the interface.
- Availability. Answers depend on hosted gateways and providers. Failures surface as short, sanitized notes — never as fake successes.
Controls you have
- Stop any generation mid-stream; partial text is kept, placeholders are dropped.
- Nothing is captured until Send; nothing persists after the answer.
- Delete any conversation locally at any time — deletion is durable (foreign-key cascade), not a soft hide.
- Sign out to cut the app off from every gateway at once.
